The Brief
Renovate and extend the family home to create warm, functional and contemporary living spaces. The family was looking to capture the bushscape at the rear of the property and a home that felt open, calm and connected to its setting.
At the heart of the brief was a contemporary kitchen that could support busy family life while also becoming a natural gathering place during larger social occasions. The kitchen, dining and outdoor living spaces needed to flow, allowing the family to cook, entertain, relax and gather.
The Concept
Begins with the surrounding bushscape — the gum and wattle trees. A palette of muted blues, misty greens and soft greys. Solid Oak timber floors and concrete tiles echo the tones of the landscape adding a contemporary feel. The deep blue kitchen joinery is a focal point, balanced by off white surfaces. The mirrored splashback reflects light and draws the outside in.
Large glazed doors and windows frame views to the bush, a direct visual connection between the space and its natural surrounds. The outdoor entertaining area forms a generous social space that opens toward the landscaped pool and bushland beyond.
Custom timber accents were designed and handcrafted by Tower Timbers, using a gum tree that had fallen on the property several years earlier during a severe storm. A detail that gives this renovation a personal connection to place.
